How to Get Back on Track
How to Get Back on Track
We’ve all done it, Fallen
off Track! This may have been with a special diet plan (as Grandmaster
Steve mentioned in his recent post) or a new exercise program. Maybe you
haven’t been showing up to Krav practice.
Whatever the case, you cheated
on your diet, or stopped exercising because the in laws came into town or you
got busy or stressed out!
Now one or two days of
falling off track is probably okay. The concern is when that becomes YOUR new
norm!
Typically, we feel guilty
about what we did, and unfortunately that guilt can release dopamine, making it
okay to NOT DO what you should, because you rationalize it. “Screw it, I
already ate that piece of pie, let me eat the whole cake!”
Eating the whole cake (or
continuing to do so) is the problem, not usually that one piece of pie.
So, what do YOU DO?
First Recognize
what’s happening. Don’t beat YOURSELF up and take RESPONSIBILITY and Action in
the direction you want to go. Plan for Success.
Of course, get professional
help if you struggle with an eating disorder. If you need assistance at Krav, speak
to one of the Sensei’s. They do privates and help with accountability.
If you ate that pie or
burger, eat an apple, or drink some water. If you have a whole pie in front of
you, toss it. There’s no need to keep the temptation around.
Make it easier
to do the healthier actions. For
example, have fruits and vegetables readily available on a tray on the table,
rather than buried in the fridge. Don’t buy the junk food.
Leave your water out to
remind YOU to drink it. I like filling my gallon of water in a fancy stainless
steel water bottle, with encouraging words, “you can do it, you’re almost
there!”
Leave out exercise
equipment, so you can practice with your nun chucks or bow or whatever you’re
working on. I also like to leave out a band to just pull on it for strength
training, when I am on the phone and it’s easy to travel with.
If you struggle with
exercise. Change the word to PLAY. Start simply with doing something FUN each
day. Repetition is key. Hire a trainer if you need to.
One of my patients began
dancing for one minute a day. Something is always better than nothing.
Now she’s up to 10 minutes!
Key Concept:
Make it HARDER to do the bad habits and EASIER to do the Good ones.
Forgive yourself easily and take
action in the direction YOU Want to GO! Plan what days and times you’re heading
to Krav and go. Don’t overthink it!
The Blackbelt Leadership
Training program at Krav teaches YOU, one of the most important parts to being
a leader is being able to do the little things. If you can’t do that, how the
heck are you going to be able to do the BIG Stuff?
