Do I Really Need Lab Testing?
Do I Really Need Lab Testing?
As I alluded
to in my last blog, “YOU CAN FEEL FINE and NOT BE
FINE!” Just think of someone who suffered from a heart attack (and was not in
the hospital) because they felt fine the day before.
That’s why I
recommend early marker testing. It can identify HOW YOUR BODY is functioning
and help YOU become Proactive in your healthcare.
Instead
of Waiting for Disease, Why NOT Prevent it!
There are
many labs out there, so I will discuss my go to’s. This is in addition to
ordering traditional baseline labs (i.e., cbc, cmp, lipid, and tsh). If you’re
worried about cost, many have come down in prices, and if you have insurance
some are fully covered.
Furthermore,
for those who don’t like to get their blood drawn or they are a hard stick, there
are options for checking urine, saliva, stool or doing it via a fingerstick.
This is great for kids.
Preventive
Lab Tests
1.GI effects profile- Gut test to check your microbiome
(bacteria, fungi and viruses that live in your intestines). It can check for
inflammation, infection, and your need for probiotics (and which ones).
2.NutrEval- Nutritional test to see what your
body is actually absorbing and can evaluate your body to see if it’s overloaded
with heavy metals. Since both of these parameters can affect weight loss and your
ability to fight infection, along with discovering your susceptibility to
getting cancer and heart disease, it can be lifesaving.
3.One Day Hormone test- For those who want to know their
baseline hormone levels (especially when they are young and healthy and fully
developed), this can be a great simple at home saliva test. In addition, I
highly recommend it for those who have hot flashes, weight loss issues, trouble
sleeping, and just feel tired most of the time. This test can also be done through
serum from Quest and LabCorp. Additionally, Quest and LabCorp now offer a
salivary cortisol test.
4.Allergy
Test- To evaluate for environmental and food allergens (Allergix)
5.Advanced
Lipid panel (Cardiac IQ)- In depth assessment of cardiac
risk and dyslipidemia. This test can be ordered thru Quest and LabCorp
6.Estrogen Metabolism Assessment- Evaluates one’s risk for cancer and
other hormone-related diseases in both men and women by checking urine
metabolites.
7.Metabolomix-At home test to assess your
functional nutritional assessment and toxin levels, needing only a finger stick
and urine. Great for kids.
8.Genetic
testing- There are many kits out there which you can obtain i.e. 23andMe,
AncestryDNA, 3x4 Genetic Testing. Having a genetic predisposition towards a
disease does not mean you will get the disease. However, it’s prudent to
discuss the results with someone knowledgeable in this area, to learn how to
reduce your risks.
Which tests
to order are determined by many factors, including gathering a thorough history,
and performing a comprehensive physical exam. These tests can help you become
PROACTIVE in YOUR HEALTHCARE and IDENTIFY things you may NOT BE FEELING!
Do you
remember what the 3 most dangerous words are, (as Grandmaster Steve and Shihan
Carolyn cleverly asks)?
You got it, “I
KNOW THIS!” TEST
