Fighting Stress
Fighting Stress
What’s worse
than feeling out of control, feeling like life is happening TO YOU, rather than
FOR YOU? Stress is prevalent and it can be debilitating, making you feel
depressed, anxious, frustrated, overwhelmed and angry, due to circumstances you
feel are beyond your control.
In this
blog, I will define stress, why we all have it and what you can do to manage it
better.
What is
Stress?
It’s your
body’s response to physical or emotional circumstances, that causes chemical
changes to occur in the body. All humans experience this and it’s perfectly normal.
Its main
purpose is to keep YOU safe.
That’s why
in dangerous situations your heart races and blood pressure increases, so you
have MORE blood flow. Blood sugars rise and adrenaline is pumping to give YOU Energy
and help YOU Focus on the task at hand.
Short
periods of stress can aid in survival towards an unexpected threat and drive YOU
to do great feats.
However,
when you experience chronic non-life-threatening stressors that are more psychologically
damaging, (where you are constantly worrying about money, relationships, work, your
kids etc.), this can take a devastating toll on your body.
These
draining thoughts can lead to many chronic diseases like:
1.Heart
disease
2.Depression
3.Anxiety
4.Obesity
5.Diabetes
6.High blood
pressure
7.Impaired memory
8.Weakened
immune system.[1]
Even binging
on the news can make you fall prey to the harmful effects of stress. Because
let’s face it, most news is not happy.
Now the
Good News….
Your
perception of stress determines how it manifests. Some folks see it as a challenge to GROW.
For example, while many karate schools were closing during the pandemic,
Grandmaster Steve saw this as an opportunity to expand his business. He
stayed true to his students and offered virtual classes, and when he reopened
the dojo, the numbers grew substantially and continue to do so.
He teaches this
philosophy of abundance in his book, “Developing YOUR Superpower,” which he delves
deeper into in the Blackbelt Leadership Training Program.
In addition
to Grandmaster Steve’s wonderful lessons, I will share another powerful tool to
help YOU REFRAME a difficult situation, so YOU can FEEL Empowered rather than
stuck! Please check out this unusual video.
First
remember, your mind is NOT designed to make you happy. It’s designed to keep you
alive. And Your
mind doesn’t know good or bad, only what YOU FEED IT!
