Managing High Blood Pressure Naturally

Managing High Blood Pressure Naturally Do you suffer with high blood pressure (hypertension)? Wouldn't it be nice to get off your meds or drastically reduce what you're taking? I have patients who do. So it IS POSSIBLE and there is hope. Remember YOU ARE NOT a Disease! If you have a family history of hypertension, does that mean you will automatically get it? No, not necessarily. Having a gene for a disease does not guarantee you will get the disease, especially with chronic diseases.   Many of these are lifestyle driven, meaning HOW YOU LIVE matters MORE than just what you inherit. For example, my patient Tim (who is in his 60’s) has a family history of heart disease and high blood pressure. Through his great attitude, and consistency of staying active, eating better, and practicing relaxation, he has been able to stop taking his blood pressure medicine. He has also lost over 30 pounds and his blood pressure dropped from 158/107 (in July)   to 117/78 (7 months later)

11 Natural Ways to Lower Cholesterol

Image
11 Natural Ways to Lower Cholesterol   1.Omega 3 Fatty Acids (ie fish oil, vegan version DHA) 2.Red Yeast Rice 3.Plant stanols  4.Fiber -The American Heart Association recommends 25-30grams of fiber daily. Work up to this, as I had a patient increase to this amount in 1 day when she didn't eat much fiber. It can make you very gassy and in her case made for an interesting date!  Remember soluble fiber  ie apples, beans, barley and oats can absorb water like a sponge and bulk up the stool and lower cholesterol. Insoluble fiber like kale helps move the stool along. 5.Niacin  6. Move Daily. Doing Something is always better than nothing! Include strength training at least 3 times a week. Even kicking your legs and shaking your arms in a recliner acts as movement. 😊 7.Eat (and drink) nutrient dense foods and beverages. For example, consume at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables (include some dark greens) per day, (one serving is the palm of your hand).

What’s Love Got to Do With It

What’s love got to do with it   True love stories never have endings!   Happy Valentine’s Day!   Did you know Love can not only make you happy, but lower your risk for heart disease?   By releasing endorphins, raising dopamine and oxytocin (the cuddle hormone), and lowering cortisol, LOVE is heart healthy and good for the soul.  One of the best ways to get love is to give it (especially offering love to the folks who appreciate YOU and respect YOU)!   Love can come in many different forms, like the love you have for your child, spouse, or for Muffy, your golden retriever. Remember, you’re never too old to BE IN LOVE!     Being in a mature, loving relationship can be quite beautiful.    It’s also healthy for you. One study showed people who were intimate could reduce their risk for heart disease by half.   If the drive is gone, please get a workup (especially with a holistic medical doctor), and check your hormones, because it could indicate early heart
